Small-Sized Telescope System Engineering and Integration
The small-size telescopes (SST) of CTA are required to achieve the goal sensitivity in the domain above a few TeV. An array of up to 100 SSTs of diameter 4-7 m is envisaged for the Southern site of CTA, covering an area of 3-10 square km.
The System Engineering and Integration of the Small-size Telescopes will coordinate the system design work, engineering, documentation, quality control and quality assurance for the small-size telescope (SST) sub-system of CTA and develop technical implementation plans for this component of the observatory. This work will be undertaken together with the technical co-ordination and the technical development work done on the telescope cameras and structure.
This task differs significantly from the equivalents for the large and small telescopes in that a major design decision must be undertaken within the Preparatory Phase and (unlike the large telescopes in particular) mass-production of the telescope design is needed, with implications for the verification, validation, costing and risk management schemes required.
This work package is co-ordinated by the University of Liverpool, contact: Tim Greenshaw.
